The Chronicle of Japan was formally edited in 720 A.D. by Prince Toneri, who was one of grandsons of Temmu-Tennow. However, it has been inferred that Prince Toneri would have consulted to ancient documents and manuscripts which maybe had been handed down from generation to generation within the Tennow family and those of mighty tribes. If the term Atai was used from the 5th to 6th century as we mentioned above, one of the old documents should have established at least during these two limited centuries.
