What does the joint governance over Ashihara-no-nakatu-kuni by Oonamuch-no-mikoto and Sukunahiko-no-kami signify? Both of them are certainly male deities. Possibly, it seems to suggest that in the ancient ages of Japan there were a different kind of diarchy from that based on the separation of religion and politics, of authority and power, or of the Heaven and the Earth, which has been already found in the relation between Takamanohara and Ashihara-no-nakatu-kuni or Amaterasu-oomikami and Susanow-no-mikoto.
