明治時代の躍進

　江戸時代の寛永１０（１６３３）年、幕府はいよいよ鎖国令を発布し、日本国は、国を閉ざす時代をむかえます。ようやく外国に扉が開かれたのは、２００年ほど後の江戸末期となってからです。しかしながら、鎖国というハンディキャップがありながら、明治時代に至りますと、日本国は、急速に国力をつけてゆきます。それでは、何故、日本国は、開国とともに躍進することができたのでしょうか。

　その理由の一つに、日本人の倫理観を挙げることができます。それは、おおやけの人々のみならず一般の人々も、高い職業倫理や社会奉仕の意識をもっていたことです。アジアの特徴として、しばしばネポティズム（身内びいき）が挙げられますが、日本国では、資質や才能に優れた人に対しては、血縁ではない他人であっても支援を惜しみませんでした。貧しくても、道がまったく閉ざされているわけではなかったのです。また、見も知らない人々が集まって活動を行う会社組織を上手に運営できたのも、民間にあってもおおやけとわたくしを区別して、職業人に徹したからと言えましょう。この意味において、現在の日本人のほうが、よっぽどよき国家や社会、さらには経済の仕組みを築いていく資質に乏しくなっているのかもしれません。

　このままでは、日本は、ちょっとあぶないんじゃない！？とまあちゃまは、あせるのでした。・・・
