Furthermore, can we infer that Nigi-haya-hi-no-mikoto was one of delegates whom Takami-musu-hi-no-mikoto dispatched from the heaven in order to subjugate Ashi-hara-no-naka-tu-kuni? If he had been a delegate from the heaven, Ame-no-waka-hiko should have been a most probable suspect.
From this view point one may say that the events which the editor of the Chronicles of Japan enumerated in time series had actually occurred almost simultaneously, whether it had partly or not. This hypothesis is supported by the facts that there were powerful tribe-nations, which sometimes federated or conflicted with each others, in the age of Yayoi, particularly, Na, Kuna and Tumo.
We incline to understand that historical events, which might occur in ancient times in Japan, described in the Chronicles of Japan, were edited in time series. If the Sumera-mikoto wedded Hime-tatara-isuzu-hime who was a daughter of Oo-ana-muchi-no-mikoto or of his son, Kotoshiro-nushi-no-mikoto, it is probable that most of events should have happened in a short space of time, although the Sumera-mikoto stated that 1792470 years had passed since Ninigi-no-mikoto had descended from the heaven.
However, some question remains. In the first place, it is unreasonable that the Sumera-mikoto married the grand-daughter of Oo-ana-muchi-no-mikoto, because the immediate former ruler of the eastern part of the nation was Nigi-haya-hi-no-mikoto and ages of times had passed since Oo-ana-muchi-no-mikoto transferred his sovereignty over the Ashi-hara-no-naka-tu-kuni to Takama-no-hara in the age of mythology.
Concerning Oo-na-muchi-no-mikoto, the editor of the Chronicles of Japan said that he was father or grandfather of Hime-tatara-isuzu-hime who was the prime spouse of the Sumera-mikoto and the first empress of Japan in the first volume of the Chronicles of Japan describing events in the age of mythology. Therefore, it is probable that the Sumera-mikoto should have tried to absorb the former authority by means of the marriage with his daughter. This has been one of ordinary ways of merging other nations in pre-modern times.
Why did the editor of the Chronicles of Japan dare to leave the suggestive descriptions concerning three precursors? It seems that he should like to suggest that there might be three former dynasties or authorities within the limits of the eastern part of Japan before the national foundation by the Sumera-mikoto, although these three precursors might belong to the same or relative tribe.
Lastly, the editor of the Chronicles of Japan referred to Nigi-haya-hi-no-mikoto, who flew freely about in the air on board of “Ama-no-iwa-hune” and looked down the nation from it. Nigi-haya-hi-no-mikoto landed on the nation and named it “Sora-mitu-Yamato-no-kuni,” which means the nation looking beautiful from the sky.
Secondly, Oo-ana-muchi-no-oo-kami, who had reigned over Izumo, also known as Ashihara-no-naka-tu-kuni, before Takami-musuhi-no-mikoto dispatched delegations in order to press him to surrender voluntarily, was said to have named the nation Tama-gaki-no-uchi-tu-kuni, which means “a nation being surrounded with the beautiful mountain range.”
Firstly, the editor of the Chronicles of Japan introduces words of Izana-gi-no-mikoto who bore the Japanese Archipelago with his spouse deity, Izana-mi-no-mikoto, in the age of mythology. Izana-gi-no-mikoto was to admire Yamato as an excellent nation giving the people tranquil hearts, being filled with fine weapons and being in good order.
Following the description regarding the origin of the name of the Main land of Japan, Aki-tu-shima, the editor of the Chronicles of Japan cited three precursors who had admired the nation, and introduced their words with epithets for it. These three precursors were Izana-gi-no-mikoto, Oo-ana-muchi-no-oo-kami and Nigi-haya-hi-no-mikoto.
