According to the main text of the Chronicle of Japan, the eldest son was named Honosusori-no-mikoto, because he was born when in the blazing fire emitting smoke. He became the ancestor of the Hyato clan. The second son was named Hikohohodemi-no-mikoto when his mother kept away from the heat. And Ninigi-no-mikoto named the third son Honoakari-no-mikoto, who came to an ancestor of the Owari clan.
Taking Konohanasakuya-hime in marriage, Ninigi-no-mikoto had triplets of sons. By the way, Konohanasakuya-hime bore their three sons in a burning childbirth cabin without any exits. This meant an Ukehii, an ancient way of judgment. Before entering in the cabin, she swore an oath, “if father of these children be Ninigi-no-mikoto, they will be bore in safety even though this cabin will be enveloped in flames”.
Ooyamatumi-no-kami said, “The reason why I had offered my two daughters to the descendant of the deities was that I wished that they should live perpetually as that the name of elderly daughter, Iwanaga, means eternity, and that they should thrive as that the name of younger daughter, Konohanasakuya, means full flower. As he sent Iwanaga-hime back to me, the descendants of the deities will live as long as flowers will”. Under this curse, the descendants of the deities came to be no less mortal than human-beings.
To the regret of Ninigi-no-mikoto, Iwanaga-hime was not as fair as her younger sister Konohanasakuya-hime. Therefore, he sent her back to her father, Ooyamatumi-no-kami, heartlessly. Ashamed of her returning and bearing a grudge against him, Ooyamatumi-no-kami called down a curse upon the descendants of the deities.
Accepting the proposal by Ninigi-no-mikoto, Konohanasakuya-hime asked him to make it to her father, instead to herself. This has been a customary practice for a proposal of marriage since the ancient times in Japan. Ninigi-no-mikoto sent a messenger to Ooyamatumi-no-kami, who was her father, and besought him to permit their marriage. Ooyamatumi-no-kami was pleased with his proposal and offered his two daughters, Konohanasakuya-hime and her elder sister Iwanaga-hime, to him with offerings.
According to the Kojiki, Ninigi-no-mikoto asked one more question to Konohanasakuya-hime whether she had some sisters or not. Konohanasakuya-hime answered that Ooyamatumi-no-kami had another elderly daughter whose name was Iwanaga-hime. Satisfied with this answer, Ninigi-no-mikoto decided to propose marriage to these sisters and told her his heart. In the ancient times, we can see there were customs of polygamy in the world generally.
At the Ata, there was a so fair lady, whose name was Kashi-tu-hime, Kamuata-tu-hime, or Konohanasakuya-hime. Captivated by her at first glance, Ninigi-no-mikoto asked her to tell names of herself and of her parents. “I am a daughter of Ooyamatumi-no-kami and a descendant of deities”, she replied to his inquiry courteously.
Although we have inclined to identify the Ashihara-no-nakatu-kuni with the Izumo, where locate in the Shimane-prefecture now, the description in the Kojiki showed that the place where Ninigi-no-mikoto built a nation was in the north part of Kyushuu. According to the Kojiki, Ninigi-no-mikoto founded there the solemn shrine supported by a thick pillar which was so tall that it could reach to the Takamanohara in the Heaven.
Especially, the complier of the Kojiki said that Ninigi-no-mikoto depicted the place where he had landed on faced to the Kara-kuni, where was in the south part of the Korean Peninsula and the invisible road seemed to lead to the promontory of Kasasa in the south part of Kyushuu straightly. Ninigi-no-mikoto appreciated it and said, “the morning sun is shining. Hence this land is auspicious!”
In the second place, considering the future expedition of the first Tennow, Jinnmu-Tennow, to the Yamato, it is doubtful that Hutunushi-no-kami and Takemikatuti-no-kami should have substantially succeeded to make Oonamuchi-no-kami transfer his supreme power over the Ashihara-no-nakatu-kuni to the Takamanohara. If they had done it, it would have been unnecessary that Jinnmu-Tennow dared to conquer the Yamato, where has been regarded to be the whole or the part of the Ashihara-no-nakatu-kuni.
